Under close supervision of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources and in a trainee capacity, the Student Assistant (Engineering and Architectural Sciences) assists the various construction staff, engineers, and technicians with construction projects and reports for the Pearblossom Project Headquarters Office. The scope of responsibilities of the incumbent are formulated to suit the incumbent's technical knowledge, skill, long range goal, and the Department's immediate workload requirements.

This is a Student Assistant (E&A) position, with a maximum of 1500 hours of per 12 consecutive months. Proof of application for, or enrollment in, a college curriculum preparing for upper division status in an engineering, architectural or landscape architectural curriculum leading to a bachelor's or advanced degree is required.
This position will be required to travel to other worksites, including Perris.

This position requires independent action by the incumbent and the ability to follow directions. We are seeking candidates who are able to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office programs. Candidates who are majoring in Civil Engineering with classes in Construction Management and Construction Management Technology are highly encouraged to apply.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the quality and extent of their experience. Therefore, applications and statement of qualifications should clearly and concisely demonstrate relevant qualifications. Ideal candidates will possess a combination of the following: Written communication skills; Basic knowledge of Civil Engineering Concepts including specifications and plan review; General Coursework Experience, review technical sections of the contracts specifications and plan review; Writing Construction reports, inspection and writing construction reports; Research Experience including soil and concrete laboratory; Internship Experience in construction or engineering; Performing routine inspections at field construction sites; Understanding and Use of Microsoft Office Programs; Reviewing contractor's correspondence and preparing appropriate responses, and tracking meeting minutes; Reviewing contractor schedules; And experience in quantity calculations (e.g., earthwork, concrete, asphalt, pipelines, electrical cabling, etc.
